This review is from: New Cast Iron Electric Tortilla maker MADE IN MEXICO. for flower tortillas , corn tortillas , sugar pancakes (gorditas) and savory christmas crispiest (bunuelos) (Kitchen) This tortilla press is great. You put a round little ball of dough towards the back, close it, and then 10 seconds later hold it down for 5 more seconds and in 15 seconds you have a perfectly round tortilla that is par-cooked. This does not completely cook the tortilla, it is made to cook it just enough so that it holds it's shape and then you store the stacks of tortillas in the fridge or freezer and cook them on a hot griddle for a couple of seconds before serving. This press pays for itself after about 15-20 batches of tortillas. Don't forget to store it with a thin layer of oil on the plates. It makes perfect flour tortillas. I give 4 stars however, because the delivery took forever and the machine does get a little hot. I bought this vs. the cheap Chinese electric ones. I am so glad I did. Shipping was by USPS so it went from California to Salt Lake City, UT then to Arizona. (I guess the government doesn't worry about gas prices) The press works great. There is an English translated manual that has the basic dough recipe and needs little tweaking. The press does get a lil hot and you have to be quick. I "Blew up" 4 tortillas on the learning curve. This is really a good unit. All the tortillas come out perfectly flat and are pre-cooked. Just drop them on a med-hot skillet to finish them off. Lots of fun and they taste Great! If you have the time (about 45 min) to make your own tortillas this is perfect and a BIG money saver. Out here in AZ 10 tortillas cost $2.85 for the cheap tasteless ones vs $5.00 in ingredients to make 100's of them.
